good morning, ladies and gentlemen,

when i was little, i lived in a remote village in southern china with my grandparents. like many kids in the countryside, i enjoyed digging a hole in the opening among paddy fields, using branches and hay to bake sweet potatoes and playing hawk-and-chicken with my friends. every chinese new year eve, my grandmother would prepare our festive food called guo. it was a tradition that neighbors help each other prepare guo. while adults were busy pouring flour on the cutting board, pressing the paste flat and moulding it into beautiful shape, kids would run around in the village’s ancestral temple and immerse ourselves in the enchanting and cheerful smell of holiday.

having lived in the city for the following ten years, i always feel the changes happening in my hometown every time i go back--the village looks surprisingly similar to the coastal city where i live! the opening field where i baked potatoes was leveled and a manufacturing factory has been built there, blocking the sunlight of our yard. the ancestral temple has been torn down and is now a small supermarket for villagers. the number of people knowing how to prepare guo is diminishing and young people seem to be more interested in fast food and oblivious of traditional arts and skills. the village seems quite empty because most young people have become migrant workers in cities and only return home once or twice a year.

in the course of urbanization, villages gradually languish and die out when the passing on of traditions lose its population base. the total number of chinese villages has declined from 3.7 million in 2000 to 2.6 million in 2010. approximately 300 villages in china are disappearing every day. it’s saddening to see that many ancient villages, which survived warfare and natural disasters over thousands of years, have been demolished or annexed by cities in peacetime. lulei village, hometown for the famous mathematician, chen jingrun, was an affluent village in southern china with a history of over 700 years. since the village obstructed the construction of the local railway station, it was almost torn down, including the former residence for chen’s family.

we chinese have been reveling in urbanization for decades. what worries me is that one day on this way to modernization, we turn back but are unable to see the link with our origins and ancestors. when we’re surrounded by skyscrapers and neon glamour, what defines us as chinese? urbanization does not mean brutally encroaching upon the countryside and strangling rural culture. it should not sever the ties with our beloved homeland. while promoting the country’s economy, it should also allow space for cultural diversity. in the ideal urbanization process, we should no longer emphasize the binary opposition of city and village, but endeavor to form a reciprocal relationship between the two.

ladies and gentlemen, fallen leaves return to the roots. if we do not redefine and reorient urbanization, we will not be able to save millions of villages, neither can we revert to the origin where we belong.

thank you.

dear students, our way of life is always sunny, blue skies, which in the end the most dazzling ray of sunlight? it was said to be excellent academic performance, it was said to be given to help others ... ... and i think that our way of life of the most brilliant sunshine should be reported to belong to the temple map, help us to grow thanks to everyone. yes, the institute of thanksgiving is a feeling, the institute of thanksgiving, but also a character.

as teachers and our students, the most important gratitude is a school. schools to give us a big growth stage of life: bright and spacious classrooms, new desks and chairs, air-conditioned and well-being, as well as multi-media facilities, has provided us with an attractive learning environment. read one book bright and clean rooms, provides us with knowledge of the marine tour; flat beautiful big playground, provided us with a good place for the exercise, and pottery room, computer room, dance room, multi-purpose hall, and so on, no school is not out of devotion to our selfless love!

however, in these beautiful places, often with some notes of discord. read books in one room, some students read the book, abandonment, i do not know the original release, there is more tear, using the phenomenon of the book; when the red and green and white artificial big playground to open it selfless embrace, and some of the scenes of discord hurt our eyes: a wide range of confetti, colorful tang zhi, and scattered in all corners of the shell seeds, chewing gum, etc. the list goes on of these!

students, please put your hand on his chest ask ourselves: "i do a thanksgiving school?

students, let us now work together, with their good health habits to school thanksgiving, thanksgiving, so that the flowers on campus and open more beautiful.

"never say die, i've been down this road before. i'll never quit, i'll never lay down." it's the song named "win". it tells us never say die.

seeing this topic, what first strikes my mind is the group of blind football players who won the silver medal at the beijing paralympics games. what they did shows the spirit of the old saying never say die. instead of giving up because of their blindness, they have redoubled their efforts and they did wonders.

never give up, even though there are many difficult things waiting for you. if you try your best, maybe there will be many successes behind you the next time.

i once read a book called "the count of monte cristo". in the book, it says, all human wisdom is summed up in these two words, wait and hope. just try your best, wait for the success and hold on your hopes.

trying times will pass, as they always do. face the trouble heroically

and just have patience, your dreams will come true and you will surely win.

what is happiness?

i believe that most of us had been “questioned” by our parents or relatives basically about “how much do you earn a month” or “have you gotten promoted”. but few of them care about that if we are living a happy life.

concerning such phenomenon, a question comes to my mind: what is happiness?

as american president franklin roosevelt said,“ people are happy only because they think they are.”

different kinds of people enjoy different kinds of happiness. to the chairman, nation’s harmony and prosperity is happiness. to retailers, selling more goods and having more customers is happiness. to the police, getting guilt punished and society’s stability is happiness. to beggars, away from starvation is happiness.

we will feel happy when we receive greetings and wishes. a few words like “happy new year!” or “merry christmas” could be pretty delightful. but not all greetings and wishes lead to happiness. for instance, once i received a message from my girlfriend on november 11th. the message said “happy bachelors day!”

actually, no one can be happy forever.

we all confront difficulties and failures and experience reverse in our daily lives, that is inevitable . we may be upset when we lose a game. we may feel tough when we suffer from diseases.

but it doesn’t matter because happiness is much more beautiful in comparison with these tragedies. as george bernard shaw, a famous british dramatist said , “lifetime of happiness? no man alive could bear it, it would be hell on earth .” we live a hard time so that we value the happy moments. if there is no sadness, then how could we be able to measure happiness?

people never give up the pursuit of happiness. they work hard in order to own a cosy life. they take morning exercises in order to keep healthy. they go on a trip in order to release the tension of emotion.

however, the whole world’s happiness is much more essential than the one’s.it’s everyone’s duty to make the world full of love.

actually, we are making move. i can see that more and more people start paying attention to the poor. a lot of hope projects emerged as well as charity organizations.

i have a dream that one day when an old man falls down in the middle of the street, passers-by will give a hand instead of walking away.

i believe that one day happiness, will exist in every corner ofthe world.

one night, i complained to my mom about the lack of time. finally she said,"you are short of time just because you waste precious minutes on complaints and anxiety. the point is, no matter how full your schedule is, if you try really hard, you can always fit in some thing more."

it is the same with filling the jar. even if you place a dozen fist-sized rocks and a bucket of gravel into the jar, there is still space for sand and water between the rocks and gravel.

the lack of time is just the excuse for my negligence of every single minute. i believe that the great dividing line between success and failure can be expressed in six words,"i did not have enough time."the fact is i do have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to helen keller, pasteur, thomas jefferson, and albert einstein. the point is i have never touched upon the real meaning of life which lies in snatching, seizing and enjoying every minute of it. no idleness, no delay, no procrastination, no complaint! it is during my moments of complaining or hesitation that my destiny is shaped. once i make full use of every moment, i believe that, my worries will be gradually cut down to nothing.

time is the most valuable of all our possessions, but the most perishable as well. as henry david thoreau said,"you must live in the present, launch yourself on every wave, find your eternity in each moment."

whenever i fell the lack of time in the future, i will tell myself "carpe diem , seize the day, make every moment count."
